Functional Neurological Disorder (FND)

Living with Functional Neurological Disorder can feel confusing, overwhelming, and often isolating—especially when symptoms don’t fit neatly into traditional medical explanations. At the Functional Neurology Brain Center of Florida, we believe your symptoms are real, valid, and deserving of thoughtful, individualized care.

Functional Neurological Disorder affects how the brain communicates with the body. While imaging and standard tests may appear “normal,” the nervous system is not functioning optimally. Our approach focuses on identifying and retraining disrupted neurological pathways to help restore clarity, control, and confidence in daily life.

Areas of Focus:

Individuals with Functional Neurological Disorder may experience symptoms such as:

  • Functional weakness or paralysis

  • Tremors or involuntary movements

  • Gait disturbances or difficulty walking

  • Sensory changes (numbness, tingling, altered sensation)

  • Non-epileptic seizure-like episodes

  • Speech or swallowing difficulties

  • Brain fog, fatigue, or slowed processing

  • Dizziness or visual sensitivity

  • Heightened stress responses or nervous system dysregulation

How We Support Patients with Functional Neurological Disorder

At the Functional Neurology Brain Center of Florida, we focus on retraining the brain, not masking symptoms. Our care is non-invasive, drug-free, and data-driven, designed to help the nervous system regain stability and efficiency.

Our approach begins with a comprehensive neurological assessment to identify areas of imbalance within the brain and nervous system. This allows us to tailor care specifically to how your brain is functioning.

Treatment may include:

  • Sensory and motor-based neurological rehabilitation

  • Visual-vestibular integration therapy

  • Balance and coordination training

  • Cognitive and attentional exercises

  • Proprioceptive and movement-based therapies

  • Nervous system regulation strategies

Advanced technologies such as GyroStim may also be incorporated when appropriate. GyroStim provides controlled, multi-axis motion stimulation that engages multiple brain systems simultaneously, supporting neuroplasticity and helping the brain form more efficient, stable connections.

A Supportive Path Forward

Functional Neurological Disorder is complex—but improvement is possible. By working with the brain’s natural ability to adapt and reorganize, we help patients build resilience, restore function, and reconnect with their bodies in a safe and supported way.

Progress may be gradual, but every step forward matters. Our team is here to guide, educate, and support you as you move toward greater confidence, clarity, and quality of life.
